PLANNING

Since I have completed all the research I needed to do, today I plan on working on my actual project, the painting, I also plan to talk to a local artist on his thoughts on impressionism art style and what evaluation criteria he would use to label a piece of art as impressionism art style or not.

TAKING ACTION

As I had finished painting the first layer of background on the canvas, I aimed and completing the next big area, the lights. Once I completed painting the lights, I went back into parts of the background and blended together the yellow and blue so they flow more as one piece rather than two separate pieces, giving the entire painting a complete look.  During my conversations with some artists, I learnt that in modern impressionism, almost always, light is indicated by bright colors rather than by variations and tones of white and black as it normally is in any other artwork including traditional impressionism. After I had finished blending the yellow color on my painting, I began adding detail to the actual wick of the candle.  I however had to be controlled here and could not add too much detail as the brightness of the candle must be such that it withholds some of the certainty of what is there and take some of it away.

REFLECTING

I have had not had a lot of time to reflect on my Personal Project till now because I have been very busy trying to complete all the research.  But now is a good place to stop and think about what I have completed so far and where I want to be. Looking at the research I have conducted, what I have learnt so far and what I have decided to paint, I think I have come a long way and am heading in the right direction.  Although I haven't been able to stick to my original sketch of the painting completely, I have covered all aspects and the overall gist of it. I believe within the next month I should be able to finish my first painting and begin working on my second one. I also want to reach out to more artists to get their opinions on impressionism. Different artists come from different parts of the world and have different backgrounds and different training.  Getting inputs and feedback from several artists will give me a wide range of perspectives and will help me in defining a complete and all-encompassing evaluating criteria. Next week I plan to establish a set of parameters for the evaluating criteria so that I can evaluate how well I portray the two different forms of impressionism in my paintings.
